DNow 2012

Disciple NOW (DNOW) is a weekend long retreat in which youth take part in worship, small groups, prayer, great live music, team building, and a lot of fun with friends. The purpose of the retreat is to spur youth to become true disciples of Jesus Christ, hence the name, Disciple Now. It has been a big hit in the few years that we have hosted this event, with over 30 youth attending each year. This year’s Disciple Now will be March 2-4, 2012. I hope you will be a part of it.

Registration

You can register online by filling out this form (coming soon) and turning it in to the church office or the Loft (the youth room). Registration is only $20 and covers all expenses including food, local travel, entertainment, small group materials, t-shirt, and more.  If you want a guaranteed t-shirt that fits, you must register by February 9, 2012. Do not let cost be a factor in your decision to attend.  Scholarships are available.

Imitate

In Ephesians 5, Paul’s call to imitate God in verses 1-2 is the theme of this DNow, and the driving focus of the Bible study. The call to imitate God is a call to live a holy life. It’s a call to conform all our actions, thoughts, and priorities to reflect who God is and what He values. This word imitate comes from the Greek word “mimetes.” The meaning is pretty much exactly as we might expect. But for first century Christ-followers, the application of the concept was pretty revolutionary.

As new believers literally surrounded by a pagan culture, these young Christ-followers needed to know how to practically live out their newfound faith. Thus, Paul’s seemingly simple call to imitate God was actually quite profound. Paul’s statement was a sweeping call to the all-encompassing nature of faith in Christ. There is really no difference today.

Band and Speaker

You will not want to miss this year’s DNOW based on our speaker and band alone!

I am very happy that Donovan Martin will be our Disciple Now speaker for 2012. Donovan Martin has lead students for over twenty years in four local churches in Alaska and Texas and has found the emphasis of the ministries to be centered around walking faithfully daily and sharing faith in the contexts of home and school. Also Donovan Martin is the head of DoubleDog Ministries. DoubleDog Ministries is about Passionate living. Our faith in Christ can be lived out in passionate ways each day. IN his desire to follow God’s lead in his life Donovan has The DoubleDog Dare book which challenges us to be more passionate in our faith by making our walk “more action” and “not just talk”.

With the release of its sophomore disc, Of A Captive Heart, and a tireless work ethic, A Road Less Traveled is moving boldly forward to become a legitimate rising star in 2010 and 2011.  Lead single “Underneath” is already gaining airplay, following in the footsteps of the band’s previous single, “Save Me” from the band’s independent debut, which landed in the top 30 at christianrock.net.

With roughly 120 shows logged in 2009, the band laid a strong foundation and grew a loyal fan base to build upon throughout the Midwest. A combination of smaller headline shows, conference appearances, youth camps and opening slots on national tours attests not only to the band’s flexibility and diversity, bit to its willingness to do whatever it takes to connect with its steadily growing audience.

As the band refines and sharpens its dynamic live show, the touring opportunities continue to roll in. In 2009, A Road Less Traveled joined the “Rock What You Got Tour” with Superchick, Stellar Kart and Article One to finish the year strong. In turn, 2010 is kicking off on a similar note with the band joining Hawk Nelson and Group 1 Crew for the spring leg of the “Live Life Loud Tour.” The three week run only keeps the band in the public eye, but also serves to solidify an already strong and growing fan base throughout the Midwest. A Road Less Traveled also played at Rock the Desert in 2011 when Redbud Student Ministry was in attendance.

How Can I Help? (Parents and other Adults)

Disciple Now is an important weekend for our youth ministry and participating youth will come to a better understanding of their relationship with God.  It is also a big endeavor.  We had several youth attend last year, but we also had several adult volunteers. There are opportunities for adults to volunteer by providing food, being a host home, being a driver, being present, etc. If you would like to help, please download and fill out this form (coming soon) and return it to James Taylor, james@redbudbaptist.org.
